DESCRIPTION:<a href="https://musical-museum.odoo.com/event/silent-film-spee
 dy-158/register">Silent Film - Speedy</a>\nSpeedy Yes folks\, Harold Lloyd
is back on the big screen for this screening of his 1928 comedy feature f
ilm. His last silent film before he turned his attention to sound films. H
arold is a mild-mannered New Yorker who finally finds his true calling whe
n he becomes determined to help save the city’s last horse-drawn streetc
ar\, which is operated by his sweetheart’s crusty grandfather. From its
joyous visit to Coney Island to the cameo of Babe Ruth\, its hair-raising
climax pulls stunt after stunt on the city’s streets. The Kew Bridge Kin
ema at the Musical Museum\, is unique! It is the only repertory series whi
ch features live Wurlitzer organ accompaniment to silent classic films in
the UK. In January 1925 the first Wurlitzer organ was opened in a British
cinema - these fascinating instruments were originally designed to accompa
ny moving pictures. 100 years on and we are recreating this magic at the M
useum with current generations experiencing the thrill of the halcyon days
. We are thrilled to have Donald MacKenzie as our Silent Film Artist in Re
sidence - he devises each programme and presents the films at the screenin
g\, as well as performing an exciting and enthralling improvised score to
each film on the Mighty Wurlitzer\, and is equally delighted to be part of
this project. We carefully choose a good mix of well known classics and m
ore obscure titles which we feel deserve a screening to a modern audience.
You can book in advance for all the programmes\, and our café is open se
rving our usual selection of snacks and drinks before the film. At most sc
reenings we include an interval where refreshments are available.
